Steve, any news as to whether they want us to organise these ride-outs yet, or do you think they'll wait until May 31st to tell us they've 20000 registrations :o , all of whom want to go for a different ride every day? :-\ ::)  Kiss Kiss, John T.

Ok managed to get a conference call in with the organisers. They want to go ahead with the rideouts but the number of rides and frequency of them has yet to be decided. It has been suggested that as many as 25K bikes will attend the event :(

I have said that my/our complete involvement in the organising will be difficult because of the distances involved but we may be able to help with the marshalling of the rides but we will wait until they have formulated their preliminary plans first before we commit.

JT I mentioned that you had a 50 mile route and they are interested in seeing it. Can you do a Google Route map for us?

I can feel I'm being drawn in,  yet again. Does anyone else fancy being 'lead' on this one?

Hi all. I've sent this route to Steve to pass on to the organisers. It's been modified to avoid dual carriageways, it's reduced to about 40 miles, and it's certainly scenic. not having posted Google maps before, and being computer-illiterate, I hope you guys can access it. Please let me know a) whether the link worked, and b) whether you think the route is shite or not..... (I happen to think it's manageable, and not too difficult to marshall). Regards, John T.

Hi all. With ref to the map of the route posted above, can you guys open it OK? Steve says the link freezes his PC. If it works OK for any of you , could you pass it on to Stem for me. Cheers. John T

This has all gone 'tits up' already  :) . The charity thought that they might organise this all themselves took too many bookings and the venue pulled out. The next venue Chepstow race-course decided that they wanted £10-15K and would provide all the food and drinks at no discount wanted £1 / person entry and would not make a donation to the charity.

The charity founders have decided that they can't cope (ALREADY) and are trying to pass it over to someone else.

I'm keeping well away.

Something tells me (the judicious use of the smiley :) ), that you threw back an "I told you so" to them. I'm thinking therefore that they've tried already to make the USR Group the "someone else" mentioned in your posting.
However I've done a bit of research, to be helpful like, and you might like to suggest that they contact Chris Sutton at King Sturge (the commercial property agents) who are managing the huge, and currently disused, acreage that was the Llanwern Steel Works. Most of the buildings are gone, leaving vast tracts of flat concrete hard-standing, just begging for a bike rally to park on it, and it might help the agents draw attention to it. The ride I suggested could still be used as well ;D .
The location is less than 10 miles from the original intended venue, and the agents might look favourably upon them. I'd have to say that the only other possible venue I could think of, well to the west of Cardiff, is Pembrey Circuit.
Best wishes, John T.

I see from their latest e-mail circular that they've gone for the Chepstow Race course option, and that they want registrations from May to involve a £40 "donation", presumably to cover the added costs involved.
I think you're right Steve, this is not one for the USRs to get involved with!
best wishes, John T.

PS. Jeffrey, please don't tell me off for ending the sentence with a preposition....it's been a long day! :-\
